Freehiking Two Palms Wash
On Monday, 2/3/2020, four members of NNAZ freehiked the Two Palms Wash, just a few miles west into the desert from Table Mesa Exit (Arizona - I-17). The weather was predicted to be bad (cloudy and over 20 mph winds), but the weather turned out to be beautiful (no clouds and only a light breeze). How nice is desert freehiking in February?

Along the way, Amy suggested a sub-name for our freehiking
members – Wash Walkers. The Two Palms
wash has nice cliffs on both sides, beautiful old acacia trees, wonderful cactus
views, and two palms. The wash was only
slightly up hill and sandy with some rocks; it's moderate walk. There were places along the way to sit and
rest.
We freehiked about a mile and a half up the wash until we
were stopped by a cliff. At the bottom
of the cliff was a great pool, a little slime-covered now, but a beautiful feature
and probably totally refreshing after a storm washed over it.
When hiking back we all found a souvenir - rock, etc. I found a great saguaro hiking stick and Greg hauled out an entire saguaro skeleton.
After hiking perhaps three miles, we ate a great burger together (with fantastic
onion rings). All had a great time!
