Women’s Freehike

I’m proud of Amy who organized a woman’s only freehike Saturday (4/28/18).  While she wondered why only one other person joined in, she said hiking naked with even one friend on the Mingus Mountain trail led to enjoyable, open conversation.

QUOTES 4/30/2018

“Sitting in a window of a Pizza Hut in a busy city center (Sheffield) several years ago, with a very good view up High Street. . . Saw two young men (early 20's) looking a bit differently clothed in the distance.  As they got closer, I saw they were totally naked . . . They walked at a normal pace, chatting to each other, without a care in the world it would seem . . . They walked close by the restaurant window and continued down the hill past shops etc. 2 trams of passengers also passed close by.  They disappeared around a corner 100m away.  In total I watched for perhaps 200m but they must have walked through the city center for much longer.  People looked, smiled but I saw no reactions greatly different to passing anyone else.” – bjohna, http://www.naturist-corner.net/community/index.php?topic=21640.0;topicseen

“Given that that there is no social or scientific rational for a bra, that there are significant concerns of harmful effects, and that they are expensive, uncomfortable and rarely fit, one might expect them to go down the historical path of many earlier garments like corsets.  However, given the intense marketing and social pressures this is unlikely to happen in the immediate future.” – https://youngnaturistsamerica.com/naturism-naturist-women-bra-necessity/

“I love it when the sun shines and I can shed my clothes.  I'm lucky to have a garden that as only one window overlooking it so can quite often sunbathe nude.  I’m also lucky that my neighbor is totally ok with it, as I discovered a couple of summers back.  I had my clothes off outside to catch some rays, music was playing and I was quite at peace with the world, I had my eyes closed when I felt a tap on my shoulder.  Opening my eyes, I was astonished to see my neighbor looking back at me.  ‘Hi’ she said ‘you look like you’re comfortable.  Have you a bowl I could borrow’.  I tried to cover up but she laughed at me telling me not to be so shy as she had no problem with my nudity.  I stood up and quickly found the bowl she required, thinking she would want to leave, but no she asked if I was going to offer her a coffee, so we sat and chatted me naked her fully clothed.  I told her I always had her down as a prude to which she replied although she would never get naked herself she could see no harm in other enjoying a nude lifestyle. . . We have now become close friends and she will often come for a chat on a hot summers day . . .” – Gibo1

QUOTES 4/29/2018

“Sleeping is one of the most important activities that helps to keep you healthy and relaxed throughout your life.  Getting the right amount of sleep is very crucial, almost as important as eating, and it has several health and mental benefits.  However, you can be able to reap far more benefits by sleeping without clothes.  Naked sleeping is a liberating experience that allows you to sleep comfortably and helps you to feel free and happy – the lack of constrictive clothes and the feeling of being sandwiched between cool sheets is very stimulating.  Sleeping also exposes your skin to fresh air, especially your private parts, armpits, and feet, which are usually covered by layers of clothing during the day.  It also helps you to maintain an optimal body temperature, which enhances the production of cortisol hormone.  This helps to keep you relaxed during the day, improves your moods, and helps you to effectively manage stress and anxiety.” - http://blog.vritomartis.com/top-18-things-to-do-naked/

“I’ve heard people say that the nudist lifestyle was appealing to them because they felt free for the first time. I have to admit the first time I attended my first nudist event, I was surprised by how free I felt.  I often wonder why I hadn’t tried it sooner.” - http://arizonavichi.tumblr.com/

“Last summer I was doing the bi-weekly commute from the Willamette valley to Fresno.  That piece of I-5 thru the Central Valley can get HOT!  Then my A/C failed.  Nothing to do but roll down the windows and strip off.  And who ever heard of getting arrested in California for being nude?  After that it became the routine for the trip and as I usually arrived after dark I never bothered to dress when walking into my apartment either.” – Rancid

“I have been a nudist for about 50 years from my early teens.  When I was 16 or 17 I visited our local naturist club to ask about membership.  Not a problem all I needed was a letter from my parents giving permission, with my parents not a chance.  Fast forward 15 years by which time I was married and the proud father of three children.  As a family we joined the club I had enquired at years before.  What wonderful weekends we had out there, the kids enjoyed the pool and we all made some great friends.  During those 15 years I had lost my father and we had bought a house with a 'Granny anex' for my mother.  My mother started asking questions as to where we went at the weekends.  I dodged the truth for a few months until my wife told me that I must tell my mother where we went on the weekends.  Plucking up all of the courage I could muster I went into her lounge and told her that we were nudists, that we all enjoyed being without clothes and pointed out the some of our friends who visited were also nudists.  Her reply came as a real shock.  She said that it was fine that we enjoyed the nudist lifestyle and asked that we respect her friends when they visited meaning keep your clothes on.  If we wanted to live nude at home that was not a problem and her parting comment was that if my father was still alive he would have loved to come to the club with us.  So my parents were accepting of nudity and how would my life have changed if I had had the courage to ask them for permission to join the club back when I was 16/17?” - Badger

“The sky was beautiful when I freehiked the dirt roads around a small hill east of El Paso, Texas (March 12, 2011).  I visited several rocky camping spots at the base of the hill, and climbed to the top.  The views of the desert below and the clouds above were fantastic.  There are times when the beauty that surrounds a nude soul goes unnoticed.  Freehiking - being one with nature – is wonderful and amazing.  How can freehiking be resisted?” – Kenfreehiker

“Modern cosmetic pharmacology focuses so heavily on eliminating depression that it entirely misses one essential point: depressed people are suffering from a lack of fun.  Nobody ever describes depression as a ‘Fun Deficiency Syndrome’, but lack of fun is clearly the root cause of all depression.  It is impossible to be depressed when you are having fun, yet modern therapies for depression seek only to minimize depressive symptoms while doing nothing to maximize the daily intake of fun. . . Everyone likes to have fun - no, we love to have fun.  When we are having fun we forget ourselves and become one with our actions in a moment of pure playful enjoyment.  Having fun goes beyond being happy.  Happiness implies a baseline level of contentment and good feelings but it does not include the amusement, exhilaration, laughter and joy associated with fun.  If depression is the illness of our age, fun is the cure. . . Fun is always more fun when it is shared with other people.  This is why partying is an essential human behavior for regulating feelings of self-esteem and social worth.  Having fun with other humans in a social setting stimulates serotonin and oxcytocin, two neurochemicals essential to feelings of security and being loved.  So if you’re feeling depressed and nothing seems to be working, the only solution is to call some friends and go out and have some fun.  It is clinically proven to make you feel better.” - h+ magazine

“While it is faintly surreal to see a dozen naked people hanging out – quite literally – in a hotel lobby, the sense of surprise really doesn't last long. . . “Perhaps getting naked in the middle of the woods or on top of a mountain is not for everyone, but I have started to do it more often recently.  I feel happy and I feel love when I do – not only love for being free, but also for my body that, as a river, does not wish to be skinnier or taller, but certainly longs to be accepted and taken care of.” – Karin, http://girlastray.com/naking-women/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

QUOTES 4/26/2018

“It's very important for the naturists to stand strong for those areas that have been clothing optional for many years, and not to give in, to the daily pressure to clothe themselves because of the clothing obsessed who happen upon or seek out our natural places.  I regret earlier in the season I did not remove my shorts upon arrival at a favorite spot because of the many clothed in the area.  While it is now mid-season, the shorts come off regardless of who is around and I now see many need a prompt for them to join in.” – Naturist Zoar, http://www.clothesfreeforum.com/forum/naturist-rooms/miscellaneous/18305-naked-among-the-clothed/page8

“As a person grows up in America, he/she is often subjected to influences that induce body shame.  Cultural institutions like religion drive into us the belief that we and especially our bodies are inherently sinful.  In essence we need to be saved from ourselves. QUOTES 4/25/2018

“I went on my fifth nude hike and for the first time, encountered textiled people.  On my previous four hikes, since the family is still asleep, I've been fortunate in that I could arise, pack, load the car, drive two hours to the trail head, park in a convenient copse of trees, hike for several hours and then drive back home, all the while nude. My hiking companion, a beagle, always remained nude, too.  On my fifth hike I ran into a man and woman, after rounding a switchback.  There was no time to take evasive action and the man immediately turned uphill and said something to the woman.  I was definitely on their radar.  As I got closer, I smiled and said, ‘Boy!  The trail didn't look this steep on the map!’  The man seemed to relax a bit and simply uttered, ‘Yeah...’  The woman was leading her dog and since the trail was on the steep side of a mountain, I stepped uphill to let her pass.  As the dogs exchanged the prerequisite greeting, I asked how she was.  In an un-naturally high voice, tainted with a bit of forced nonchalance, she said she was fine and asked how I was. . .nude hiking, even on the worst of days, is better than clothed hiking on the best of them.” – Au Naturel

“When I first became a ‘naturist’, there was nothing sexual about it at all.  It was a health therapy and powerful relaxation technique for this stressful fast-paced world we live in, and it plays that role now as it ever has.  I was excited.  I discovered something that could help other people.  So I got involved in the nudity-loving community at large, drinking up the philosophy and etiquette of what made up ‘family-friendly’, ‘ideal’, socially-acceptable naturism.” – Glen Donnelly, https://nudemovement.org/2016/07/15/its-time-nudists-got-real-about-sex/

“I grew up going to nude beaches with my parents, so I'm a nudist.  I have no problems with nudity at all.  I'm very free.  When I go to the beach, it's in a very remote place where there are not a lot of people, and I like to go topless.” – Heidi Klum, http://perezhilton.com/2016-11-28-heidi-klum-ocean-drive-december-2016-issue-spread-cover#.WD1zkvkrKM8

“In fact, there is no general prohibition against nudity in the Bible, and there are many Christian naturists in this country.  It is not Christianity itself that is the problem; rather, a false ‘Puritanism’ that is more about ‘Thou shalt not...’ and less about loving God and our neighbors as ourselves.  Yes, nudism is a challenge to many churches--but not to the Bible or the Bible's God, Who made us in His image, naked and unashamed.” – Jochanaan, https://youngnaturistsamerica.com/nude-photo-pictures-blogs-nudist-photos-whats-point/

QUOTES 4/24/2018

“Naturism may be the earthy example to a heavenly future . . . at no time did God condemn Adam and Eve being naked . . . When God created man, he created him naked . . . When God creates for us a new heaven and a new earth, there will be no more curse (Rev 22:3). . . If the reason that God gave us clothes was to deal with the curse, then when the curse is wiped away, we will no longer have a need for clothing. . . Few people actually think about nudity in Heaven . . . Since we will not have any shame in Heaven and if we are to return to Eden . . .  we can be assured that we will have the choice to go without clothing because we know that our bodies perform the best as God created them. . . we will have new bodies on the redeemed earth and will no longer have a need for clothing.” - https://youngnaturistsamerica.com/are-people-naked-in-heaven/

“I recently told a friend why I thought Americans were so attracted to owning their own backyard swimming pools...Skinny Dipping!  The truth is I think most people fantasize about the freedom to be nude at least in their own backyard.  The sun is great on our skin and the feeling of a cooling breeze over you is just one of life's great simple pleasures. . . The local water hole, a beach, or your own backyard is great for the first time experience.  But there is nothing like having the option to strip off and jump right in. . . we look forward to Memorial Day Weekend at our house.  A nice relaxing beverage, some bbq on the grill, and of course everyone naked around the pool.  Does life get better than that?” - http://ymlp.com/z62kdg

“A friend had mentioned SaltyBoys sailing – one of a number of naturist yachting outfits around the world – and I was immediately intrigued and excited by the idea.  Imagine, seven days, sailing around the turquoise waters of the Greek islands, from secluded beach to historic port, following the winds, swimming at will, basking in the warm Aegean sun, eating well, making new friends, and almost entirely without the shackles of clothing. . . Discretion and respect saw us don the shorts whenever we entered harbour of course, but otherwise we slept, swam, ate, cooked, read, chatted and slept again, just as nature intended.  What was just a week of sailing felt like a month of the most relaxing holiday imaginable. . . Where there’s no underwear, there’s no anxiety… just freedom beneath a sapphire sky, a brilliant sun, and the full white sails that take you to your next secluded beach on a peaceful Greek isle where clothing is a far-off thought.” – Erik, https://clothesfreelife.com/2016/10/02/freedom-under-sail-guest-contributor-erik-viking_steel/

Every month we had to undergo a medical check up.  The Dr. Office was in the locker room, so it was not unusual for men to be standing in line naked, waiting to see the Doctor.  There was a season when the original doctor was off, and a female doctor subbed for him.” – 788

QUOTES 4/21/2018

“When naturists/nudists tell society we are egalitarian and espouse the value benefit of naturism to help in ‘being true to yourself’ but then dismiss another’s perspective as invalid we all seem disingenuous.  When naturists/nudists tell the rest of society to be open-minded to our way of life but can’t have disagreement with another naturist without blocking out their opinion we all appear hypocritical.  When naturists/nudists challenge the broader society to not force us to live by their traditions but respect ours but cloister exclusively behind our own (possibly outdated ones) we all look duplicitous.  Embracing diversity is more than saying come be like me more than tolerating someone of a different skin color or social class it’s also embracing diverse thoughts.  If we can’t be in the same space and have differing opinions or hold space for people who are different and have different views, how does the practice or philosophy survive in a world of increasingly divergent thoughts, views and perspectives.” - http://clothesfreelife.com/2016/04/05/naturism-philosophy-nudist-practice-and-the-politics-of-disagreement/

“There's a fairly common meme around the internet that reads ‘I bet being a nudist takes all the fun out of Halloween,’ but that isn't true. . . Here are a few ways we've seen of dressing up without wearing anything. . . Cupid: All you need are some fake wings, a bit of satin sash . . . and a bow and arrow . . . May need blonde wig also; Baby New Year: A sash with 2014 on it and a top hat will make you one character that's ahead of its time; Huck Finn: Straw hat, Corn cob pipe, Cane pole if you like - He skinny-dipped quite a bit after all; Nudist on Strike: Wear clothes (yech) and carry a sign.” – Bare Platypus, http://bareplatypus.blogspot.com/2015/10/bare-it-during-halloween.html?spref=tw

“Society has grossly overlooked the psychological, health, environmental, and societal benefits of a nudist lifestyle . . . While many in America desperately seek solutions for the critical problems resulting from today’s shallow, materialistic, unsustainable, environmentally destructive, socially isolated, emotionally disconnected, mentally stressful, and physically sedentary consumer lifestyles, no mention is made by mainstream society of one important lifestyle aspect . . .  namely that of naturism. . . Naturism remains a stepchild, isolated, hidden, shunned, and largely ignored by more popular holistic health and wellness, community involvement, and environmental sustainability movements.  We naturists can no longer remain silent if we wish to pass on the benefits of naturism to a larger society, maintain them for future generations, or even retain them for ourselves.” - African American Naturist, http://youngnaturistsamerica.com/nudist-lifestyle-silent-minority/

“. . . we're nude all the time at home - inside and outside in our backyard. “It is nice to have a long weekend to relax . . . I took off my clothes when I got home Friday afternoon, and I won’t get dressed again until tomorrow morning.  The girls came over for a sleepover this weekend and they couldn’t wait to strip down.  We did our usual naked hike thru the woods down to the creek, and then came back to the house to lay out by the pool and relax. . . [They] are completely comfortable to be nude with both my parents now. . . Yesterday I got the girls to help me weed a couple of my raised garden beds.  The four of us got down on our hands and knees and pulled all the weeds that had taken over my vegetable garden.  We always make everything we do fun…and maybe it was because we were pulling weeds naked, but we made the chore fun.  The Texas sun was hot, and it didn’t take long for everyone to get too hot so we showered off and jumped in the pool to cool off.” - http://nudisuzie.com/page/2/

“Upon my college graduation, I embarked on the path of semi-self-discovery and adventure . . . I boldly decided I would set all apprehensions aside, and visit my friend at a nudist club called Rock Lodge.  I embarked on my journey . . . with a friend . . . As we entered the gates of the nudist camp, a wave of panic came over me as a man greeted us (naked, of course). . . I met a variety of people, all different ages . . . I couldn’t help but admire the confidence everyone seemed to possess, no matter their physical shape . . . I thought to myself, ‘How can people whose imperfections are so blatantly visible for everyone to see possess such confidence?’  As I learned more about the lifestyle and the philosophies behind nudism, I began to understand why. . . I began to feel comfortable around naked people. . . it became somewhat normal.  After the first few hours, I no longer thought about the fact that people were naked and I understood how easily people could adapt to this lifestyle, if they were open to it.  I also noticed how accepting people were. . . I went for a [naked] walk in the woods . . . It was truly one of the strangest and simultaneously liberating feelings . . . I walked on a trail surrounding a medium-sized lake. . . I . . . stood alone, in the middle of the sand, overlooking the lake.  I knew people on the other side of the lake could see me naked from a distance, but I no longer cared.  At that moment standing on the beach, I realized how far I had surpassed my comfort zone, and how much I enjoyed it. . . Mingus Mountain Maintenance Freehike

Monday (4/16/2018) five naturists cleaned up the Mingus Mountain freehiking trail.  Aside from moving a few fallen trees and snipping a few prickly stems, there was little to do.  But it great to freehike the trail with friends again.  The weather was iffy, so two hikers stayed clothed.  Amy got topless and took photos.  We met three textiles just as we left – the first we’ve ever met on the trail.  Overall, it was a nice freehike.

“A big advantage about being open about being a nudist is that you have no need to worry about being seen nude, in real life or recognized in photos online.  I don't see why I should be embarrassed, or ashamed, about being a nudist, its who I am.  I prefer not needing to care about who knows I like being naked, it makes life a lot easier. . . other people might be embarrassed by our nudity, but when they see I'm very relaxed about being naked it’s not usually an issue.  Unfortunately, not every nudist can be completely open about their lifestyle, due to society's attitudes, life can then create potential embarrassment regarding nudism.” – NikNudist, https://www.truenudists.com/groups/view.php?action=viewthread&id=132&idt=58742&vpage=1

“I’ve always been a believer in the simple things in life.  Appreciating the little gifts, joys, even surprises, that life has to offer every day.  What does this have to do with nudism?  Well I find nudism puts me more in touch with life’s simple pleasures.  It exemplifies basic, pleasant sensations when nothing stands between me and the outside world.  Such as feeling the sun on my face.  The forgiving Earth under my feet.  Watching the clean water ripple out as I swim unencumbered through a lake.  The sweet smell of the trees and flowers.  Listening to the symphony of insects.  Birds.  Bull frogs.  Having a cup of tea in the morning, nude, outside.  To me nudism is also about simplicity and living in a simple way.  I love waking up with no worry over finding clothes to put on.  The simplicity of being myself in my own uncovered body.  Less laundry, no clothes to stain, no hassle of finding the right shoes, shirt, pants to wear.  No tugging, snapping, pulling or adjusting of textiles.  I can take a shower and stay naked afterward, instead of precariously holding up my towel while I fumble for clothes to dress.  Life is just simpler naked.” – Felicity Jones, http://youngnaturistsamerica.com/nudism-and-simple-pleasures/

“It really is the only way to swim. Up at the cottage, which is pretty isolated, I never wear a suit.  The lake warms up nicely in the summer and it's so lovely to dive off the dark and swim beneath the stars at night.” – Soupie, https://www.truenudists.com/forum/viewthread.php?id=16710&page=3

“. . . very few nudist resorts in the US offer true hiking as an activity . . . the only resort I know of that can offer day long nude hikes . . . is De Anza Springs. . . sadly the owner never fully grasped the potential of offering nude mountain biking, rock climbing and hiking as pastimes for those young enough to engage in such activities.  Rather he clings to the tired model of traditional nudist resort. . . [even though] I tried to get him to understand the cultural shift from clubs to more independent minded persons wanting to be active.” – Montanafree, http://www.hikingnaked.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=bfndrroefc23gh9gpegd5rvmq5&topic=1338.msg9814;topicseen#msg9814
