QUOTES 5/31/2018

“Many different sports would . . . be better if they were practiced naked.  Clothing actually restricts the athlete, as the body is more free to move when not wearing anything.  It can get in the way and also adds extra weight, so it is pretty much a hinder.  Shoes might be necessary in certain sports, but other than that, clothing is pretty much useless. . . sports would absolutely be better off done clothes free.  Also, there’s not many things more beautiful than an athlete’s well trained body, if we’re thinking from an artistic point of view.” - https://thanakedi.wordpress.com/2016/12/20/where-nudity-should-be-the-norm/

“All bodies deserve to feel comfortable naked. Nudism doesn’t discriminate against body types or anyone. I embrace it, and feel empowered by others who do too. “. . . nudity is not dangerous, unless one engages in dangerous activities, much like it is with non-nudists.  It may not be a good idea to cook naked.  As for posing a danger to others, what exactly would you expect a naked person to do?  One can’t hide explosives under one’s skin.  Also, how often do you see a naked sexual predator?  Such people tend to hide and what better way to hide their purpose than behind layers of clothing? . . . Nudists have other things in mind when they are practicing nudity.  You could say that if they were planning something devious, you could see it immediately, because they have nowhere to hide it. . . public nudity as a norm may even lead to an increase in public safety.” – Naked Diaries, https://nakeddiaries.wordpress.com/2014/09/18/40/
“Is it naive to dream that one day we too can walk the streets without our tops on?  To be able to walk on a hot day, braless, shirtless, without feeling self-conscious, without the fear of being sexually harassed or violated, without men gawking and panting at us like dogs expecting a treat.  Gosh, how lovely would that be?  To walk, naturally, as intended. I live with the hope.” – Koraly Dimitradis, http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/rendezview/why-cant-women-take-their-tops-off-in-public/story-fnpug1jf-1227615034240

QUOTES 5/30/2018

“I have always believed in the fundamental right to be naked.  Outside of protection from the elements, from cold and physical hazards like thorns and broken beer bottles, clothing is entirely unnecessary, a matter of custom, of adornment, nothing more.  I see no reason to wear clothes at home, at the pool, on the beach or at the park.  Wherever bathing suits are acceptable, nudity should be also.” – Nick Alimonos, http://writersdisease.net/2013/10/21/why-the-nudity-taboo-is-unethical-and-must-go/

“Sometimes, I forget it’s clothing optional . . . I love to take off my clothes, to walk around the house naked.  But I never necessarily said to myself, ‘Oh, this is a nudist venue.  I want to go to this nudist place.  I’m a nudist.’  But being out here, I get nude mostly for comfort, and I also think of it like, ‘When in Rome…’  I’m learning about the nudist aspect of what’s happening here.  And it really appeals to my philosophy of not hiding, being open, and also challenging what people think of what’s right and wrong.” – Christopher, http://heavytable.com/the-naturism-of-rising-sun-farm-in-river-falls-wi/

“We need to find a way to change societies thinking here in the US that naked bodies are sinful, shameful, ugly and freaky.  I too often here the phrase ‘that person should never be seen naked’ or ‘I don't want to see a bunch of old naked people running around’ and I would like to reduce this type of thinking by creating more positive body acceptance. . . we could do more, on a grass roots level.  I never see any mainstream advertising to promote this cause . . . Maybe it's time.” – Guy Purcella, https://www.facebook.com/groups/PromotingNudism/

“I advocate nakedness around your children, homes and husbands.  I don't want my boys' expectations of women to resemble those that they see in magazines or TV nor do I want my girls' expectations of themselves to [be the same].  I believe that with the help of Queens loving themselves the next generations definition of beauty will be radically different and no longer will we idolize the unrealistic airbrushed idea of perfection that causes so much self-doubt and depression.  If you have 'stretch marks, a hairy minge, saggy boobs, a flat bum, smile lines, a wobbly belly, cellulite, a tiny chest, or any other REAL women women traits, the world needs to be flooded with your image.  THE WORLD IS DESPERATE FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL IMAGE.” – Constance Hall, https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1098632346848256&id=1019711431407015&substory_index=0

“Being open about being . . . a nudist, be it closet or social or anything in between, is different for everyone. . . For many, being open about this lifestyle has repercussions.  It could be from family, friends, work . . . even your own wife!  It’s easy for some to have no one to answer to and expect others to follow their path of openness but it’s not like that for everyone and if anything . . . we should at least be open enough to understand that not everyone has the ability to be open as some.  Many of these people have others they are responsible to.” – FireProf, From Tom Pine’s Special Report, file:///C:/Users/Owner/Downloads/The%20Naked%20Truth%20Naturists_vol_16_Special%20Report_no_03.pdf

“Finally, regarding the general discourse that kids shouldn't see nudity.  Kids don't care - it's their parents who have the hang-ups and they inherited them from their parents and so forth.  There is plenty of research to show that nudism is not harmful.  Much of this debate is, I think, driven by a moral panic over paedophilia, and nudists are a particular type of convenient folk-devil.” – Darrell Turner, http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10777482

“Cut the grass for the first time a few days ago.  The front yard, gotta wear shorts, very visible from the road.  The back and side yards, do it naked.  There are places that one can see between the house and the outbuildings, but what are you going to see traveling at 50 mph for a split second.  It just feel like it’s the right thing to do.  I do wear sandles to give some protection to my feet.  But other than that, completely naked.” – Cloudy, https://www.truenudists.com/forum/viewthread.php?id=79505&page=1

“Nudism benefits children too. Children from nudist homes and families have a higher self-confidence, more confidence in their sexuality, are happier with their lives, and have fewer anxiety of the natural processes of the stages of life than non-nudist children. . . It’s okay if children’s books, movies, and TV shows have wholesome non-sexual nudity in them.” – randomfactsgeekjga, https://rfgjga1992.wordpress.com/2015/08/28/nudism-is-for-all-ages/

“Yesterday gifted me a surprise revelation: I had stopped being naked.  It’s not that I stopped spending time being clothes free in the physical sense: I still walk around home naked . . . But as the weather turns cold, so do I . . . I stopped being honest and open with people . . . I stopped telling people the truth and started 1) keeping my mouth shut and 2) lying…a lot. . . For all the walking around naked I’m doing, I certainly threw the long underwear on my heart . . . I felt a lot of anger, sadness and distance, all due to my own choice to withhold.  And that practice of clothing my soul also took away my access to my own heart. . . So, it is with some sadness that I sit with this revelation today. . . I don’t want to choose long underwear for my heart anymore.  I want to return to being open, even if the results of my honesty aren’t rainbows and sunshine everyday. . . I want to give myself space to be honest and free for my health AND, because truly that is my wish for every human being on the planet: permission to be themselves. . . I am back at the drawing board with my box of colorful chalk, ready to sketch a new way of breathing and living my naked heart in alignment with my clothes free life.” – Hontouniheart, http://clothesfreelife.com/2015/11/14/my-heart-is-wearing-long-underwear/#more-30935

“I’m also a naturist, and with few exceptions, ‘barely’ anyone knows this about me.  I’ve loved the feel of being naked my entire life, and have taken advantage of every opportunity to take off my clothes.  I’ve fished naked in farm ponds, I’ve driven the open roads naked, I’ve hiked naked in the woods, and, since I’m single, spend a great deal of my time at home with nothing on.  I’ve belonged to two different naturist clubs . . . and have spent time at nude beaches in the Caribbean.  If I’ve learned anything at all in my life, it’s that being naked is a natural and normal thing.  Just watching all the kids at the clubs having a great time with each other without embarrassment and without having to feel guilty or ashamed of their nakedness tells me that this is so.  The adults are more friendly than at any other place I’ve been.  I heard someone say a long time ago, when asked why she goes to a naturist club to take off her clothes, that naturist don’t go to such places to ‘take off their clothes,’ but instead go there ‘so they won’t have to put their clothes on.’  Makes perfect sense to me.” - http://clothesfreelife.com/2015/12/27/its-only-natural/

“Naturism allows the body to function as it was designed.” – Kensunwalker

QUOTES 5/27/2018

“The freedom to practice naturism in general, and freehiking in particular, isn't free.  It requires sacrifice.  Perhaps the sacrifice to leave the blinds closed and live in the dark at home.  Or, the sacrifice and cost to travel some distance to a nude location.  Or, the sacrifice of personal comfort to share naturism with others, or to be the first to take off clothing, or to remain clothed when others are reluctant.  Or, the potential loose of freedom from being seen freehiking.  Some exceptional people sacrifice jobs and even relationships with others for the freedom to just to be nude as God intended.  But, without the sacrifice of those from the past, we would all be forced to live dressed in Victorian prudishness.  So how can we thank those who pioneered today's more relaxed dress code, and those from the past who sacrificed so much for naked freedom?  Sacrifice - share naturism now.” – Kenfreehiker

“In my early twenties, I was reading ‘Outdoor Magazine’ and there was an ad . . . promoting ‘naturism.’ . . . I wrote the Naturist Society . . . an informational pamphlet came. . . I found the entry on Black’s Beach in San Diego and decided . . . it was the best place to try going nude in public.  [I went] . . . I saw them, a man and a woman lying on a towel facing the ocean . . . Both were nude.  I was in the right place.  I walked a bit and found a place that looked okay. . . After a while I got up my courage and stood up, took off my shirt and slid off my jeans. . . I immediately laid on my stomach with my head facing the ocean.  My pulse was quick and I thought to myself ‘I’m really doing this.’ . . . I got enough courage to lay on my back. . . I looked up and saw three people. . . They put down their stuff and immediately the two women took off their clothes . . . ran towards the ocean and dove in. . . It was my first encounter with a person (another male) who didn’t view female nudity as something to get excited about or concerned about.  The two females then laid down and later fell asleep.  I got up the courage and . . . walked to the water.  It an odd but pleasant feeling to feel the breeze on my body. . . to be totally naked for anyone to see. . . Not too far from me a father and his toddler son set up their towels.  The father removed his clothes and the clothes of his son.  The son was happy and began to run around. . . The two females woke up and . . . I offered them some bottled water but they declined.  I was dumbstruck. . . you could strike up a conversation with someone and have it not mean anything.  It was getting late . . . I packed up my stuff, but I didn’t put on any clothes.  I walked the whole way back to the foot of the trail nude, [where I) put my jeans on, and my shirt. . . I stood there looking down at the beach.  I felt different, I felt changed.  Something meaningful just happened.” – Asian American Naturist, V 17, #12, http://www.thenakedtruthnaturists.com/Portals/0/The%20Naked%20Truth%20Naturists_vol_17_no_12.pdf

“My HS had a pool that was open to the public. . . After the swim, we would always take off our swim trunks and shower.  Others would be in the showers too.  I thought nothing of it.  I remember one time as I was getting older, entering the showers and seeing kids my age with their swim suits still on.  I remember debating whether I should have my suit on too.  No one teased me or anything, but I wondering which was correct: on or off.  That was the first of many debates when I had to choose between being like my peers or my family.  If my family showered in our suits, there would have been no debate.  When I was in HS, showers after gym were mandatory.  Everyone did it nude.  Since it was the norm, no one thought twice of it.” – Kouak

“There’s money to be made from pornography whereas there is none from naturism. . . “I was very lucky today and managed to sneak in a very unexpected nude walk at Lavernock Point in South Wales.  I finished a meeting early and was on my ay home, thinking about what a beautiful sunny day it was – perfect for a naked walk. . . I got naked and walked down to the waterline and headed east towards Lavenock point . . . I walked naked to the point then continued past, towards Penarth a mile or two in the distance.  The beach was very, very quiet, I saw one naked person at the foot of the cliff, sunbathing . . . I passed one guy walking on the beach (a fully clothed textile), and I spotted two walkers up on the cliff top path. . . I walked all the way along the beach to Penarth, stopping about 300m short of the town beach . . .  and retraced my steps back.  When I reached Lavernock Point, I stopped and sat on the rocks down at the waterline for . . . about an hour, just taking in the view and soaking up some sun.  It was fantastic to be able to sit there fully naked in this amazingly beautiful and very open public place and enjoy the surroundings.” - https://nakedwalker200.wordpress.com/2013/06/

“I walked down the steps towards Rec Beach with my friend and ran straight to the water.  I hiked up my skirt and played in the water. . . I relaxed there in the setting sun when a hippy boy with long sandy blonde hair, a fin hat, and no pants walked up to us . . . Me and my friend started talking about freedoms and I had stated how much I wanted to take off my top and how restricting I felt stuck in my bra.  She said that we should do it together.  A minute later I was laying back, breasts exposed in the sun, and feeling liberated from my bra and comfortable in my body.  Sitting there watching the sunset nude was one of the most memorable moments from my Vancouver Adventures.” – Hippy-Traveler, http://arizonavichi.tumblr.com/

“I’m one of those women who has always been on the heavy side, but I was lucky to grow up in a family that allowed me not to be afraid of my looks.  Soon after I started dating my future husband, he revealed he was a nudist and asked if I would come to a local nudist resort.  Believe it or not, it was easy for me to take my clothes off the first time in front of strangers.  I know that’s not usually the way it is, but I just felt safe with him there, along with that inner confidence my dad gave me as a girl.  I could stop here and sound like being a nudist is easy.  But, it isn’t all the time.  Sometimes I still feel self-conscious about my size.  I must tell you I feel a lot more comfortable and safe when I am with my nudist friends, because I don’t feel like I’m constantly being judged.  So this is complicated.  On the one hand, it was easy for me.  But on the other hand, I still sometimes struggle with the cultural influences that conspire to make all women feel that if they aren’t pencil-thin, there must be something wrong.  And that’s why I keep coming back.” – Cynthia, https://socalnaturist.org/membership/womenspeak.php

“I think naturists are sometimes the least tolerated of people, expressly because of their belief in the practice of social nudity. . . When we practice our naturism, though we’d like to see more people join us, we’re not twisting anyone’s arm.  We’re not saying that, in tolerating our naturism, people have to accept its practice.  On the flip side, however, what does society in general do all the time?  Right, they want to force us into clothes.  Oh, we’ve gotten past the days when the cops will raid a nudist park, just because of the thought that people are doing who-knows-what naked behind its fences, but let some man or woman garden in the nude, strip off at remote beach, or hike naked in the wilderness and there will always be some person, finger-pointing and screaming, ‘Shut that down!’  Where’s the love?  Where’s the tolerance? . . . people in general don’t understand the concept of tolerance.  To tolerate something doesn’t mean we have to accept it or practice it and that is where I feel people in general go wrong: tolerance does not imply acceptance. . . we naturists have a tough row to hoe for intolerance is a strong, pervasive force in any society and the cause of so much mischief.  I’m not saying we should just give up and hide behind fences.  No, but we need to understand the hurdles we must clear toward acceptance of our idea.  Nudist and naturist pioneers have labored long and hard to get us where we are today, sometimes against daunting odds.  We owe it to them to carry on, but we won’t be able to make any progress if we sit idly by the pool at our favorite nudist retreat ignorant of all the effort our forebears have made.  Along with our other work, let’s work to educated people as to the true meaning of tolerance and, when we do, so very, very many will benefit from it.  Forewarned is forearmed” - Tom Pine, The Naked Truth Naturists Newdsletter, October 1, 2016, V. 17, #10

Of course I realize that not everyone can or wants to ‘come out’, but this only perpetrates the myth that we are some ‘secret society’ with something to hide.  We should stand up for what we believe in.” - http://iamnudeyman.tumblr.com/post/20027768886/something-all-in-the-nude-lifestyle-should-be-made

“Three weeks of Naturist holiday clothing doesn’t take up much space!” – Pat Phillips, http://www.bn.org.uk/news/news/undressing-for-dinner-r437/

“Why must everything be sexualized?  Why can't we just be comfortable in our own skin and leave it at that? N ORMALIZE THE HUMAN BODY . . . The human body has always been normal.  The human brain has to be normalized. . . Education of the brain needs to start young teaching that the human body is not something that needs to be hidden.  We are All beautiful in our infinite variety of differences.  When, where, why and by whom the general populace was taught that the human body was an immorality to be seen naked, I for one will never understand.” – OregonJack, http://www.truenudists.com/forum/viewthread.php?id=95628

“Being in Thailand is . . . about healing . . . A major part of that healing work is meditation for me, and given the opportunity, nude meditation in a private, out-of-doors location.  I meditate twice a day; once in the early morning when the sound of birds becomes the background music, and once in the mid-afternoon when the full sun can fall on my body. . . I am in the process of recovering, rebuilding my life, remembering by putting recovered pieces back into place in search of wholeness.” - https://skycladtherapist.wordpress.com/2012/01/26/meditating-and-re-membering-life/

“You can already eat naked so why not burn some energy dancing in the buff as well?  Forget about spending hours getting ready or stressing about having the right outfit for a night out, now you can just go in your birthday suit.  The Takeover Bar in Soho is set to become home to regular ‘Get Naked’ club nights, which encourage revelers to strip off and enjoy what God gave them. . . Guests are allowed (and encouraged) to strip off and dance, drink, and be merry, free of their clothing prison.  If looking at other clubbers’ naked bits wasn’t enough, there will also be naked hula-hoopers, naked waiting staff and quite possibly musicians. . . or those uncomfortable with complete nudity, that’s okay. There will be an onsite body paint artist to dab paint onto the parts of you don’t want strangers to see.  For those willing to be completely free of all clothing, you’ll be given a bottle of champagne in the spirit of liberation and having a great time.” - https://au.be.yahoo.com/travel/a/32830061/london-s-latest-trend-is-nude-nightclubs/#page1

“Every August thousands of people make the dusty trip through the Black Rock Desert in Nevada to enjoy the . . . Burning Man festival . . .  While many dress up in bright costumes to enjoy the music, art and performances, nakedness is certainly not discouraged.  One of the festival’s camps, Gymnasium, holds nude events, from oil wrestling to barrel-run races . . .” – Loulla-Mae Eleftheriou-Smith, http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/naked-restaurant-paris-park-bunyadi-nude-cruise-nudist-resort-hotel-greece-pictures-a7346721.html

“I walked [naked] several bits of the coastal path . . . some sections are mostly deserted others busier.  One morning I must have met 20 people in the couple of hours walking, only one that gave me an off look was a youngish bloke on a mountain bike.  When you meet couples the female usually has a big grin.” – Ric, http://www.naturist-corner.net/community/index.php?topic=20172.0;topicseen

“Life without clothes is normal.” – Kensunwalker

“Labels can cause anxiety, because they sometimes give a sense of needing to completely redo one’s life in order to live up to them.  What does it mean to be a naturist/nudist?  How does one dress on a cool day?  What about hats?  Sarongs?  What are the rules?  This is not to say that labels are bad, but they can be a challenge in some cases.  Sharing simple familiar experiences, though, I find to be an easy way of introducing nonsexual clothes free living.  Whether or not others choose to be naked all of the time, they at least have a lived experience of nonsexual social nudity.  They can see how I behave and feel my energy.  They are OK with the concept and with me roaming about nude, even if they remain clothed.  That has a powerful impact . . . Many different approaches for many different humans! . . . they always say this, ‘I loved spending time with you.’  They don’t care about the labels.  They are just happy to have spent time with me, each of us simply being ourselves.” - https://clothesfreelife.com/2016/12/21/sharing-simple-things/

On Tuesday March 9, 2010, I freehiked the Olive Dell Nature Trail and repaired several signs.  A few raindrops fell as I hiked.  Still, the trek felt wonderful, even after a day gardening in the nude.  There is something utterly and uniquely pleasurable about freehiking.  I was reminded yet again how fantastic freehiking feels – even on a cool day.” – Kenfreehiker

“. . . my parents and two young nieces accidentally caught me naked in the backyard from a distance.  I managed to put shorts on before they got to me but the secret was out.  I really hadn't tried to hide it, just had never admitted it to anyone.  After that I thought 'why worry about who knows?' and I even felt that nudism was such a great way of life that I wanted to spread the word to others.  So after that I would casually let others know I'm a nudist when discussing things like how warm it is, how good the sun feels, soaks in the hot tub, hiking, etc.  It's really easy to just mention something like 'I've recently found out that I like hiking nude much better than clothed.'  Or maybe, 'Yes, the sun feels great but I don't like tan lines so tan without clothes.'  Then, of course, they ask why I do it . . . So we now try to tell everyone about nudism and have gotten mostly very positive feedback.  My girlfriend's daughter has even stated it's fine if we are naked when she comes over (which we do now). . . everyone we know, knows we are nudists and only one family member had any kind of negative reaction, and she got over it in time.  So I really think we worry way too much about what others will think when we announce our nudism choice to others.  Just present it with confidence and knowledge and it will go fine.” – Guy, CO
