Freehiking Hackberry Wash

On Monday, 3/16/2020, Amy and I freehiked Hackberry Wash, between mile maker 7 and 8 on Highway 169.  This trail starts about 20 minutes from our place in Dewey.  The weather was cool but nice, with just a little refreshing wind, especially when we reached the end at the top of a hill.  The distant views were fantastic.  It’s an easy hike – a little uphill, mostly hilly/flat,  with sandy washes and paths.  The wash wanders through beautiful vegetation, with many rocky rock outcroppings jutting up from the brush.  It begins at a parking area and trail sign just off the road.  While the traffic noise was a little distracting at first, it faded, and we were soon able to get naked.  There were a few footprints, but we never ran across anyone.  We took the first wash to the left.  A fence across the wash eventually stopped our progress, so we hiked left along the fence.  I considered calling this hiking area “Many Trails” because walkable sandy areas extended everywhere, making the hiking easy.  Amy paused at sitting rocks occasionally.  We could have hiked further but decided to turn around at the top of a rise near a bare lightening killed tree.  We had freehiked perhaps a mile.   Hiking back was easy and too soon we had to dress.  It was a short drive home after this wonderful naked hike in nature.  As always, it was a great to spend the day together naked in nature.
